Michael Harvey's artwork: paintings, books, films and videos have been exhibited in a number of New York galleries including: The Leo Castelli Gallery, Metro Pictures, International with Monument, Daniel Wolf Gallery, PS1, Paula Cooper Gallery, and museums such as The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and The LA Institute of Contemporary Art. He has shown in many countries and in such international exhibitions as the Pan-Pacific biennial and Documenta.
Writing has appeared in Art in America, New Haven Magazine, Exquisit Corpse, Story, Art Monthly. He has made illustrations for the Wall Street Journal, was the art consultant to the New Oxford American Dictionary, and has taught in numerous schools such as School of Visual Arts, Hunter College and NYU.
